Title | Edward Hitchcock lecture notes on James, Rajah of Sarawak, 1849 April |
Dates | 1849-04 |
Abstract | Lecture notes by Edward Hitchcock discussing James Brooke, former Rajah of Sarawak, and his experiences in Sarawak and fighting pirates along the coast of Borneo. Hitchcock notes specific passages to read from the August 1848 edition of the North British Review that discuss Brooke, and explains that a mission has been established in Sarawak as a result of Brooke's influence. Hitchcock has written "College April 1849," which suggests the lecture was given at Amherst College. |
