Title | Edward Hitchcock sermon no. 108, "Unworthy Reception of the Lord's Supper," 1822 May |
Dates | 1822-05 |
Abstract | Edward Hitchcock's sermon on "eating and drinking unworthily" at the Lord's Supper, based on I Corinthians 11:29. He refers to Drs. Doddridge, Macknight and Scott to arrive at a more nuanced English translation of the original Greek. He discusses the range of unworthily partaking of the Lord's Supper, providing examples, and remarks on acts which bring damnation and those which are pardonable sin. Hitchcock noted the dates and places where he had delivered this sermon between 1822 and 1825. |
