Abstract | A document stating that at a meeting of the Trustees of the Amherst Collegiate Institution on April 21, 1824 the Board of Trustees resolve to recommend to Heman Humphrey that he disengage himself from the care of the college and use the time between this and the close of the ensuing vacation to restore his health. It states that they also resolve to request that the Vice President present to Humphrey an attested copy of their vote. The document is noted as "a true copy" and signed by R. Graves (Rufus Graves) acting as secretary. |
Notes | Amherst College was conceived out of the previously existing Amherst Academy and was founded in 1821 as the Collegiate Institution. From 1821-1825 the College was known primarily as the Collegiate Institution or the Amherst Institution. In 1825 the institution was granted charter by the Massachusetts State Legislature and was thereafter known as Amherst College. |
