Abstract | A printed letter dated September 11, 1818 from Noah Webster, John Fiske, and Rufus Graves addressed "To the Rev." (Reverend) in which they write on behalf of the Trustees of Amherst Academy and invite the recipient to a convention to be held in the Amherst, Massachusetts West Parish at which attendees will deliberate on the establishment of a charitable institution to educate "pious indigent young men for the gospel-ministry." They state that the convention will be held on September 29, 1818 and ask that the recipient and a lay delegate of their parish come to the convention and meet with the trustees and subscribers to the Charity Fund. They also state that a committee will meet attendees at the house of the innkeeper Elijah J. Boltwood to direct them to arranged accommodations. Webster, Fiske, and Graves note that the trustees are inviting clergymen and delegates from the western part of Worcester county and Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin counties. |
