Abstract | Salem Towne promissory note in which he subscribes to the Charitable Fund, also known as the Charity Fund. Town pledges to pay the Trustees of Amherst Academy five hundred dollars on or before August 1, 1827 with annual interest from and after a date in August 1821. There are unattributed notes on the back of the item regarding Towne's interest payments from 1825 to 1839. One note references a receipt given by Noah Webster. The signature on the item appears to be "Salem Town, Jr." It has been determined that this is likely Salem Towne, an Overseer of the Charity Fund. |
