Title | George Bliss speech in support of granting aid to Amherst College, 1832 February |
Dates | 1832-02 |
Abstract | George Bliss speech addressed to "Mr. Chairman" and the Committee, in which he writes in favor of the Massachusetts Legislature granting aid to Amherst College. He references the petition of Amherst College for aid from the government, states that a Committee of the Legislature reported in favor of a grant, and remarks that this is the question which is now submitted to the consideration of this Committee in the passage of the resolve before them. This document is presumably the speech or a draft of the speech Bliss gave in 1832 when the report by the Joint Committee of the Massachusetts Legislature to whom was referred a petition made by Amherst College requesting pecuniary aid came up before the House for discussion. The remarks Bliss gave during that legislative session are summarized in pamphlets in Box 5, Folders 5 and 8 of this collection. |
