Title | Sidney Brooks letter to Obed Brooks, 1839 April 23 |
Dates | 1839-04-23 |
Abstract | Sidney Brooks letter to his father Obed Brooks in which he writes that another term is about to commence and as usual he must trouble his father to square one or two bills. He reminds his father that last winter's term bill was not yet settled as College Treasurer Esq. Dickinson (Edward Dickinson) was out. He explains that he has seen Dickinson and Dr. Humphrey (Heman Humphrey) about the bill and they say that it is customary no deduction be made to the bill because of Sidney's absence during his sickness. Sidney provides the amount of that bill and the amount in total that he needs so that he can also make his way home. He mentions "H." when discussing mail that will be coming to his father. H. presumably stands for Harriet Newell (Brooks). Sidney also briefly discusses his health as of late. In a postscript, he writes that they have been favored with a revival here (at Amherst College). |
