Abstract
Photographs of the Springfield Amherst Summer Academy (SASA) inside and outside of the Octagon. Included are candid photos as well as photos of the SASA staff and students in group portraits. SASA offered an on-campus living experience and daily classes provided by Five-College tutors for around 50 black high school students from the Springfield, Massachusetts area. This year's participants were ninth and tenth graders from the Springfield Model Cities Program. These photographs are assumed to have been taken by the College Photographer for the Office of Public Affairs (now the Office of Communications). James U. Cryan Jr. was the College Photographer from October 1972-January 1975.
