Abstract
Edward Hitchcock's sermon on charitable works, based on Proverbs 11: 25 - "The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself." Hitchcock notes that reciprocation acts in almost every part of the physical world as well as the moral world. He enumerates some of the benefits returned in this world and beyond to the "liberal soul" who performs acts of charity for the right motives.
