Abstract
A pamphlet containing an essay by William C. Fowler in which he discusses the rapid growth of Amherst College from 1825 to 1836 and the decline in growth from 1836 to 1846, at which point there are only one hundred eighteen students. Williams College, the American Education Society, orthodox Christians, and Unitarians are mentioned in the pamphlet. On the first page of the item is an unattributed handwritten note stating it was written by Professor W.C. Fowler with a questionable date for the document of 1847. Also included with this item is an unattributed archival note regarding the pamphlet.
