Abstract
Edward Hitchcock's sermon on the concept of "disinterested love." The line "The heart is deceitful above all things" from Jeremiah 17:9 is quoted. Hitchcock has written the dates and locations of when and where he delivered this sermon as well as Bible chapters and hymns related to the sermons. The sermon deals with the idea that a man cannot be a true Christian without being capable of "disinterested love" and that it can be difficult to determine whether one has this "virtue." Hitchcock discusses the concept in two parts: first, as relating to one's fellow man and second as relating to God.
