Abstract
Sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock for a sermon delivered at Amherst College on November 15, 1857, considering Micah 2:10 as a statement of impermanence as applied to the whole course of human existence. Hitchcock demonstrates that change (in political, professional and social life) is the norm, and that there are many practical lessons from understanding this truth. Change prevents attachment, prepares people for future change, is a great source of happiness, and change is understood as divine in nature. Hitchcock alludes several times to other lectures of his, and has written related hymns on the last page.
