Abstract
A letter from Edward Hitchcock to Prince Malek Kasim Meirza (Shahzada Malik Qasim Mirza), governor of the province of Azerbaijan (also referred to at the time, and by Hitchcock, as Aderbaijan) in Persia. Hitchcock writes that Reverend Justin Perkins has positively described the governor's efforts to promote education and learning. The letter was apparently sent with a copy of the "Final Report on the Geology of Massachusetts" and Hitchcock explains that he hopes the text will demonstrate the type of enterprises that the United States government is undertaking. Hitchcock also mentions the missionaries in Persia and commends them and their efforts to promote science and religion among the "Nestorians," saying he hopes the governor will act as a protector to the missionaries. Hitchcock notes at the end that he never received a reply to this letter.
