Abstract
A manuscript response by Samuel Willard to remarks made by Deacon Justin Hitchcock (Edward Hitchcock's father) about Willard's preaching that were published in an unidentified journal. Samuel Willard was minister in Deerfield, Massachusetts in the early 1800s. Willard contests several of Justin Hitchcock's claims, but focuses especially on Hitchcock's charges against his preaching on prayer and his neglecting to mention man's dependence on God. Willard provides arguments against each of Justin Hitchcock's attacks, calling them unjust, and explains his interpretation of scripture. The manuscript appears to be in Samuel Willard's hand, although it is unsigned.
