Abstract
A fragment of a document by Sidney Brooks regarding the love of the mysterious. Brooks argues that this love inspires a belief in the supernatural that is implanted in the human mind and interwoven with its very nature. He states that all nations, especially those in a "barbarous state," have a fondness for the wonderful and romantic and that the early literature of every people consists of accounts of supreme beings and the supernatural. This fragment is presumed to be related to Brooks' studies at Phillips Academy or Amherst College.
