Abstract
Volume 1 Number 5 of The Electric Pen, a one-volume semiweekly periodical devoted to the interests of the Sauveur Summer School of Languages at Amherst College. It is presumed that publication began and ceased in 1878. Included in issues were articles on languages, language learning, lectures, or global art and culture; poems, prose, and letters in languages such as English, German, French, Spanish, Latin, and Italian; translations; notices of school news, upcoming lectures, available lessons, and student housing requests; and a directory of local Amherst businesses. Issues were published using the electric pen technology developed by Thomas Edison.
