Abstract
An unpublished and undated manuscript by Mabel Loomis Todd on the topic of the decline and lost art of letter writing with typed and handwritten pages. The manuscript contains outlines, possible lecture notes, clippings from books and newspapers, and excerpts and transcripts of Emily Dickinson letters and poems; including a letter from Dickinson to Abiah Root and the poem "This is my letter to the world." Editors marks and notes are written in pencil throughout the manuscript and several pages have been cut out and rearranged. Some pages are written on the backs of scraps of paper such as programs from the Amherst College Church dated July 1889, calling cards of Olive Thorne Miller, and a clipping announcing the construction of a memorial in Dalton, Massachusetts. Accompanying the manuscript is a clipping of an article published in the Boston Evening Transcript on February 14, 1912 titled "The Complete Letter-Writer."
