Abstract
H.A. Homes letter to Justin Perkins in which Homes says he has just returned from a visit to Broosa (Bursa). He writes that he envies the situations and facilities for learning languages of them and of Perkins compared to his situation in Pera (Beyoğlu) and discusses his difficulties. He responds to news of the success of Perkins' mission and writes about expecting the best but preparing for the worst. He goes to discuss writing versus conversation, noting "some foolish remark" he made to Perkins and Dr. Grant in letters. Homes says he is more occupied at present in finding a translation than any other kind of help meet in making books. Writing further on December 4, he notes that due to the ravages of the plague there is nothing of active labor going on at their mission and the government is preparing a quarantine.
