Abstract | Sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock for a sermon delivered at Amherst College on April 1, 1849. The notes focus on the occasion of a new group of young men joining the Christian brethren by dedicating themselves to lives of service and ministry. Hitchcock addresses his “young friends,” explaining that while their vows are for forever, as witnessed by God, angels, and in public by the community, they will be tested. Hitchcock also addresses the public community witnessing this dedication, concluding that hopefully a secondary good will come from this public occasion, causing new individuals to dedicate themselves to Christ in the future. |
