Abstract
A sermon by Edward Hitchcock on the idea that people must give up as "loss" everything if they wish to gain Christ's love. Hitchcock explains that Jesus must be the thing man cares about the most, and man must be willing to give up his talents, the approval of others, and worldly possessions, pleasures, and expectations in order to fully accept Jesus. Philippians 3:8 is quoted. Hitchcock has noted the dates and locations where he delivered the sermon as well as Bible chapters and hymns related to the sermon on the first page.
