An essay by Edward Hitchcock discussing man's desire to be remembered, and how the wealthy can achieve this by giving donations to educational institutions. Hitchcock suggests donations to found a professorship or curatorship, erect a new building, purchase books for the institution's library, or purchase specimen collections or classroom apparatuses.
