Abstract | A mounted portrait of William Wordsworth showing the profile of his head and neck facing left. The original painting was done by Margaret Gillies in 1841 and the stipple engraving was done by J. C. Armytage. Gillies' name is inscribed below the portrait to the left, and Armytage's name is inscribed below the portrait to the right. A fascimile of Wordsworth's signature is also included on the print. Gillies believed her original of this portrait was the best of the three portraits she had done of William Wordsworth. |
Notes | The item is undated, but the original painting by Gillies was done when she visited Rydal Mount in 1841, and the portrait was included in Richard H. Horne's book "A New Spirit of the Age" published in 1844. |
