Title | To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in General Court assembled |
Date Issued | 1819 |
Abstract | A broadside of a statement made by the inhabitants of the town of Williamstown, Massachusetts regarding the removal of Williams College from Williamstown as proposed by the Trustees of Williams College. The statement is addressed to the General Court of Massachusetts and argues against the removal of the college, citing statistics regarding Williams College and other colleges in the area. The statement also discusses Williamstown and Northampton, Massachusetts, the town to which the trustees proposed Williams College be moved. The broadside ends with a statement that at a legal meeting of Williamstown inhabitants on December 27, 1819 the attendees voted unanimously that the Memorial (the statement) be presented to the General Court at their next session as expressive of the feelings of the town on the subject. Stephen Hosford attests to the statement as Town Clerk. |
