Title | Letter from an unidentified correspondent to Alfred Dwight Foster, 1843 November 27 |
Dates | 1843-11-27 |
Abstract | A letter from an unknown sender to A.D. Foster, presumably Alfred Dwight Foster, Trustee of Amherst College. The sender writes in response to a letter he received from Foster, and he expresses his hopefulness for the future of Amherst College. He writes that he does not think the present condition of the College is not as discouraging in nature as Foster may suppose. In elaborating on this opinion he mentions Williams College and Dartmouth, writes regarding the studiousness and contentedness of the Amherst students, and encourages an increase in reliance on God and a decrease in speaking about the decline in numbers. He also writes regarding College finances and discourages Foster from resigning. This letter may have been a draft of a letter that was sent. |
