Amherst College Dean of the Faculty Records. Public Minutes (Selections)
The collection contains the publicly-available meeting minutes produced by the Amherst College dean of the faculty’s office. The minutes were generated at all-faculty meetings and run from the mid-1820s through the early 1970s. They are available in accordance with the College’s records release policy. The earliest minutes consist of volumes bound together from a variety of sources including: correspondence, notes, memoranda, and meeting minutes. By the twentieth century the minutes evolved into a standardized format. The Faculty Executive Committee (formerly known as the Committee of Six) often had its own meeting minutes chronologically incorporated into the faculty meeting minutes and transferred to the Archives in that manner.
Since these records are restricted until 50 years after their date of creation and since the records were ingested into ACDC in 2019, only minutes in the collection created before 1970 are currently available.
